Hi all, it’s been a while!
A few cultural recommendations recently:
Mythic Quest on Apple TV+ is excellent. I’ve never been that into video games, but still really appreciate and enjoy this show
Season 2 of Ted Lasso on Apple TV+ is just as good as Season 1
I enjoyed reading Homeland Elegies by Ayad Akhtar. The book isn’t for everyone, but it’s engaging and offers some thoughtful perspectives on what it means to be an American
I also enjoyed reading Dune. Many of you have likely already read it, but I just read it for the first time and thought it was a story of epic proportions. The end of the book left me wanting even more, and I’m looking forward to the movie in October.
Duolingo is a lot of fun! That being said, it has some clear educational gaps. Do any of you have other suggestions for enjoyable daily language learning?
And some links I’ve liked recently:
I’ve been disappointed by the Biden Administration on immigration issues - Noah Smith details their “sandbagging” here
The NYT has a profile of Asian-Americans with great charts and details on the composition of the population. Anything surprise you from these charts? I found the maps especially interesting….lots of Asian-Americans in places I didn’t expect
If you are like me, you might wonder why sports TV rights packages keep getting larger and larger. This is why.
Which Census Box will my kids check? (This substack from Jeff Maurer is both hilarious and insightful)
